Video streaming

Hi guys,

I've got a client who want to start and online TV station. Hardware wise we're covered, but I'm looking at what server software is required. He wants to use Wirecast to stream live from his studio.

What do I need to install on the server ? Could the server also run Cpanel and a few websites ?

Server specs are:

Xeon E5420
16 GB RAM
2x120 GB SSD drives
300 mbps connection.

He expects to have no more than 40 viewers at the same time.

You may want to consult with the software company directly to see what the server requirements are. It's likely that bandwidth will be the most important aspect.

I would suggest you to have a look on wowza on your case, as per my knowledge it is a good streaming app.

It allows you to manage video/audio streaming easily through this app + cPanel.

There are many good reviews for WHMSonic.
Knowledge base/documentation and ticket support is provided by them too.

crtmp + cpanel

Hi guys,

I started a thread asking about what to use for live video broadcasting. I've found a nice software, called crtmpserver.

Does anyone have any experience with it ?

I managed to get it working under Ubuntu, but I'd really like to use it under centos with cpanel. That part I didn't manage to do.

The client wants to use Wirecast, which is what I used for the test.

They haven't tweeted in two years. Their sales ticket I had with them has gone unanswered for over 90 days. Crappy service. I would be leary to buy anything with that record.
