I was told recently that it was not possible to host CPANEL and a production website on a WHM/Cpanel install with a single user account.

    This was the support ticket:

"The only way to make the main shared IP of the server bring up a specific website is to alter the httpd.conf file manually which will be overwritten on any apache or Cpanel version updates. Cpanel does not want any updates made to the server other than through the Cpanel administration websites. If a change is made via the command line, it always has the potential to be wiped out on an update. They do not support any changes that cannot be done via the Cpanel. This is the only way to do what you are asking as you have your server now. This will not affect the domain browsing though."

My question is if CPANEL works on a different Port, why wouldn't it work? We have SSL defaulting to their account right now without any issues.

It will work if you set the cPanel/WHM default system domain to the domain name in question :)

Thanks for your reply. I'm relatively new to the CPANEL setup with their VPS sytem, how exactly do you do this in WHM/Cpanel?

    Thanks again for your help!

I'm not sure I fully understand, maybe you can explain what you want done in more detail? You can run more than one website on a single IP address.

Reading over the support ticket, I agree, that "the only way to make the main shared IP of the server bring up a specific website is to alter the httpd.conf file".

Sure thing. We have a single domain name and a single IP. WHM has a single user account (primary user account). The IP needs to point to the primary user account. Is there any way to do this through WHM/CPANEL without having to hack the HTTP.CONF? The http.conf file will be reset each time a change is made, so it will be overwritten. It even says that in the http.conf. I remember that in Plesk there is a way to do this, but I can't seem to get it to work in Cpanel.

    Thanks for your help!
