VPS with cPanel, anything else do I need?

Forgive me if its a too basic question. I have never run a server before so.

If I buy a VPS with cPanel, then will it be enough to run the server smoothly. I mean shall cPanel alone take care of all the security updates and patches? Or, something else too I need? I will be running my site on plain LAMP. And hosting provider is giving a discount on VPS and also providing a cPanel license with it.

You can get by but there is quite a bit to running a server security wise over and above what cPanel is going to configure for you.

Also, cPanel does perform daily updates to ensure that the cPanel provided software is using secure and patched versions. This includes the provided PHP versions, Apache versions, MySQL/MariaDB versions and so on. If your hosting provider is also providing the license for you, you should be able to have everything that you need to start creating accounts and managing domains right away.
