    Hello,

I had proftpd on my server. When I ran convert2maildir for exim, cpanel, changed my ftp server to pureftpd.

    With pureftpd, I have a severe problem;

=> It does not log ftp logins to utmp/wtmp. When I run last|more, I don't see any ftp logins mentioned there. Only shell logins...

    1) How can I make pureftpd log ftp logins to utmp/wtmp?

    OR if that's not possible

    2) How can I get proftpd back, without screwing up my production server?

pureftpd logs logins and transfers to /var/log/messages

    I already know that

    I already know that!

So that means, it doesn't log sessions in utmp/wtmp?

All the more reason, I want proftpd.

=> How do I go by it, to get back proftpd? I want to remove pureftpd.

Do I need to remove all accounts and then install proftpd, or some other way?

Sorry if I'm missing something, but I don't see a reason why you can't check your logs at the path 'Spiral' specified.

I have looked around briefly for Reverting PureFTPd Back to ProFTPD without luck.

    Sorry,

    Josh

FTP sessions logins are written to /var/log/messages and even proftpd logs messages to /var/log/messages. If you want to change your logging why dont you modify syslog.conf? To want to go back to INSECURE PROFTPD just because the logging is not where you want it to be, see above, is ludicrious. Did you not read up on all the posts about how insecure proftpd was? Maybe you should. If that doesnt change your mind about going back to Pro, then by all means go for it. If your server is hacked, you'll know why.

    No arguments against security

    Hello,

No!! arguments when it comes to security issues. I agree on the 'pureftpd has to go' part on the secuirty note. :)

Just want to be able to see ftp logins in wtmp/utmp log; Its much easier to check who logged in and at what time and for how long, than grep'ing around /var/log/messages file.

=> If I make syslog log ftp activity to a seperate file, would it hinder cpanel's stats making activity? or would it break/hurt cpanel in any way?

    Change FTP back then

Can't you just go to Service Configuration > FTP Configuration and click the button "Switch to ProFTP" in WHM?

I am able to do it

    Hello,

I checked up on a new production box. I am successfully able to switch between proftpd and pure-ftpd.

Furthermore, I checked the feature I wanted from proftpd. Its there ... but! I'v chosen security over the logging feature.

    Regards
