Webmail has quit working on one of our servers (WHM v10.8.0 RELEASE).

    Symptoms:
Hanging at Inbox - multiple accounts, all 3 webmail interfaces
    Other IMAP folders work fine
Thunderbird mail client works fine with Inbox
    SquirrelMail gives the following error:
    ERROR : Unknown imap response.
Query: FETCH 1:* (FLAGS UID RFC822.SIZE BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (Date To Cc From Subject X-Priority Content-Type)])
    Server responded:

    Tried:
Restarting IMAP (inetd) from WHM interface
a quick cat /home/user/mail/domain.com/user/inbox looking for obvious corruption or anything wierd
    The mailperm script from WHM
checking the last few days of the logwatch emails for anything to do with IMAP / mail
checking /var/log/maillog for anything out of the ordinary

server hasn't done the mbox/maildir conversion yet

Any ideas? Anything to check / try?

Odd ... it started working again.

I didn't do anything obvious to fix it.

fix mailbox permissions can fix that if it is an individual account that is displaying the behavior. Never seen that happen server wide unless off course all mailboxes were improperly permissioned.

This issue is cropping up again ... same symptoms, same lack of response to the attempts to fix it.

    Unknown IMAP response

I am recieving an error message after 2-3 days of uptime when using squirrelmail (horde works fine).I either get: "ERROR: Unknown IMAP response." or "ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server."

    I saw a post on http://mailman1.u.washington.edu/pipermail/imap-use/2005-December/000056.html
with the same symptoms, and the answer was to fix squirrel mail [ http://mailman1.u.washington.edu/pipermail/imap-use/2005-December/000060.html ], or slow the imap server down. The problem goes away when I `strace` the imapd process, which in effect slows down the imap server.

Anyone know the proper way to fix this issue?

    Detail error:
    ERROR: Unknown IMAP response.
Query: FETCH 1:* (FLAGS UID RFC822.SIZE INTERNALDATE BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (Date To Cc From Subject X-Priority Importance Priority Content-Type)])
    Server responded:

    Squirrelmail 1.4.6

    Fixed, enable server side sorting.

I enabled server side sorting in squirrelmail config.php
