I've recently started having an issue with cPanel mail (on a GoDaddy shared hosting account) and it's driving me a bit batty.

When I go to "www.mydomain.com/webmail" I am able to log in, and it shows "login successful... redirecting"

Most of the time, it just sits there and either times out, or gives me the error "Unexpected condition from IMAP server, closed or corrupt connection to IMAP. Possible mailbox corruption." However, sometimes it redirects and opens normally.

I have already removed the "dovecot.index" file and let the system rebuild it on next login (which it has) but the issue still seems to exist intermittently. Are there any other files in that directory that might be causing an issue? I'm not very familiar with what each of the files do, so I have resisted the temptation to remove them all... :)

I'm beginning to think that this isn't an issue with cPanel at all, but rather a connection problem with GoDaddy's server. I have a second domain on a different GoDaddy server which works perfectly with no issues at all. Of course, GoDaddy no longer supports cPanel and wants me to purchase an email hosting plan, so they are no help at all.

Just trying to eliminate as many potential problem sources as possible.

Thanks everyone!

Hey there! Good call on resisting the temptation to remove them all :D You can see in our documentation page here, in the example at the bottom, that is the only file we remove:

If the issue is intermittent, I would tend to agree that it isn't a problem with the serverside. However, you could always check the cPanel error log file at /usr/local/cpanel/logs/error_log around the time you experience the failure to see if anything does get logged there.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to the logs. We are on a shared hosting server with GoDaddy, so we don't have access to the /usr/local folder. I've asked GoDaddy tech support to pull the logs and look for any entries using our domain, but I haven't heard back as of you.

Additional info: I *only* removed the "dovcot.index" file but not the .cache file or any of the other files. Should I have looked at removing any of those files as well?

As mentioned, I don't have access to /usr/local directly, only my particular home folder on godaddy's server, so I don't have access to the removal script and I'm removing the files manually.

You wouldn't need to remove the cache files to perform the rebuild.

Reaching out to GoDaddy is likely the best plan in this situation as they'll have access to the logs on the server to see what is happening, as I don't have anything else I can recommend that you try with only cPanel access, unfortunately.
