How do you disable the /WEBMAIL redirect. Thanks in advance. Here's my conversation with a hostmaster:

    WantMaker says:
    Hey there... had a question:

    WantMaker says:
How do you turn off the "webmail" redirect?

    WantMaker says:
    As in http://domain.com/webmail

    host says:
    turn it off?

    WantMaker says:
    Stop it

    host says:
    why would you want to?

    WantMaker says:
so you can have an actual webmail directory

    WantMaker says:
    Webmail is on another machine

    host says:
if you turned it off you wouldnt have webmail

    host says:
how is webmail on another machine?

    WantMaker says:
    Uh... it's just a redirect to: http://domain.com:2095/

    WantMaker says:
So you'd still have it, but webmail for this particular domain name is on another machine

    host says:
there is no way to turn it off

    host says:
    just dont go to /webmail

    host says:
and its as good as off

    host says:
    right?

    WantMaker says:
Unfortunately, that's where the webmail interface for the REAL webmail has been for 5 years - so that's not an option

    host says:
if its on another server how does it have the same address

    WantMaker says:
    See http://new.XXXXXXXX.com/webmail

    WantMaker says:
    That's the interface -

    WantMaker says:
The form signs on to another server

    host says:
ok so whats thedomain.com/webmail have to do with that address?

    host says:
if they are 2 different adresses

    host says:
    just ignore the 1

    WantMaker says:
    http://secondary.XXXXXXXX.com/webmail

    WantMaker says:
    see the difference

    host says:
whats the domain your trying to do this for

    host says:
    the one hosted with us

    WantMaker says:
    http://secondary.XXXXXXXX.com

    WantMaker says:
it's not in the redirects of the control panel tho

    WantMaker says:
and there is a webmail directory in the web with files

    host says:
your hosting it as a subdomain?

    WantMaker says:
    yes

    WantMaker says:
And there is dialup being sold under that domain name using a different set of servers

    host says:
so hwich is the one you want to showup?

    WantMaker says:
    http://secondary.XXXXXXXX.com/webmail

    WantMaker says:
should go to the actual directory in that web

    host says:
whats wrong with going there now?

    host says:
where does it need to go

    WantMaker says:
to the webmail directory in that web -

    host says:
    which is what url

    WantMaker says:
    now it's redirected to

    WantMaker says:
    http://secondary.XXXXXXXX.com:2095/

    host says:
    im beyon confused

    host says:
what url needs to go where

    WantMaker says:
Okay... in the secondary.XXXXXXXX.com website there is an actual directory named webmail

    WantMaker says:
it won't go there because it is redirected

    WantMaker says:
there is no way to turn off the redirect in the CP

    WantMaker says:
    That's the problem

    host says:
why dont you try doing a redirect

    host says:
    from the cpanel

    WantMaker says:
I don't need it to redirect - I just need it to go to the actual URL: http://secondary.XXXXXXXX.com/webmail

    WantMaker says:
Which looks like the mirror: http://new.XXXXXXXX.com/webmail

    host says:
yeh theres now way to turn webmail off for a single user

    host says:
    setup

    host says:
    http://secondary.XXXXXXXX.com/webmail

    host says:
    to redirect to http://new.XXXXXXXX.com/webmail

    WantMaker says:
Well that sort of defeats the purpose of a mirror

    WantMaker says:
    then I'm clustering

    WantMaker says:
    Not the goal

    host says:
whats the point of having a mirror if both go to same server

    host says:
if that server is down it doesnt matter how many mirrors you have

    WantMaker says:
    It's probably in http.conf

    WantMaker says:
I just need the redirect removed

    host says:
    www.cpanel.net

    host says:
join the forum ask cpanel they prob know a way

    WantMaker says:
No... there is no way to do it if it's not in the redirect list - it's done in the config files of the apache

    host says:
    ok

    WantMaker says:
    at setup likely

    host says:
so ask cpanel where and how
    hostgator.com says:
once they answer we can help

    WantMaker says:
    okay...

    host says:
and please do specify in your post only for a ;single domain on the server

    host says:
as we cannot be disbaling it for everyone

    WantMaker says:
    okay..

I'm thinking if my host was that rude, I'd have a new host in less than 24 hours.

    SOLUTION-BASED RESOLUTION

Well... obviously that is an option, but I thought it would be better to just get the problem resolved. Since I no longer have a UNIX box in front of me, I cannot verify my guess that this redirect is created automatically in the host.conf file at the time of website creation.

So... if someone could please give a shout out on where exactly to whack out this redirect, I'd be appreciative.

Yes. There is server wide entry in httpd.conf
ScriptAlias /webmail /usr/local/cpanel/base/wredirect.cgi so, I'm pretty sure they won't remove it since they didn't bother even to check it.

and the recommendation we all have for you is to leave whoever gives you hosting. It amazes me, how people treat paying customers.

THROWING OUT THE BABY WITH THE BATHWATER

Trust me, I hear you. Unfortunately, the DNS changes, new setup of websites and file relocations would be as much punishment for me as dropping their service would be for them. And, as I'm sure you all know, most of the time these type systems just hum along on their own, so direct assistance is rarely needed. Of course, if I can't get it resolved I will have to move.

Regards, and thanks for the confimation on the proper location for correcting the issue.

    CLAIRIFICATION...

Say, isn't there an individual entry that can be whacked out for the one website instead of fooling with the script that creates it? It's been a couple of years, but I seem to remember there were sections for each website that described redirects and whatnot. Seems like it was a simple one liner like.. Redirect permanent /Dir http://example.com/nutherDir
