What happens if clients happen to be working on their websites during the time the server is backing up accounts?
Is their backup "corrupted" in some way?

We of course run our backup(s) from midnight on but some clients use designers located overseas.

That is fine however it is possible that only the next backup will include the new files/changes the clients made.

Like @andrew.n said, it's not 'corrupt', but it's not 'consistent' either. There really isn't a way to 'lock' the account so you can get a 100% persistent backup. It's just just customers working accounts. If you have a site with a forum (for example a new avatar could be uploaded and you have it in the database dump, but not in the file system files.

@ffeingol and @andrew.n are correct in this instance. The next backup would include those changes if they're not present at the time the backup is taken but it should not cause corruption in the backup.
