Hi all, new here.
Cpanel 11.18.3-RELEASE 21703

I have Joomla installed in my root directory and I have two subdomains.
Yesterday I created a new directory (public_html/tree/) and password protected it via cpanel's applet (never done this before). I gave a new username and password. I opened the new directory and all was good ie. I got asked the for the username and password and it all worked.

I sent the username and p/w to my brother and overnight sometime he tried to open the directory and it didn't work. This morning I have found that my domain now gives a page that says "Great Success !
Apache is working on your cPanel® and WHM™ Server" and a whole lot more.
The tree subdirectory gives a 404 error
My subdomains still work.

I removed the password from the tree directory which made no difference.
I have googled till my brain is mush. I did find this
"This page is shown in place of the default Apache 'It Worked' page. If you are seeing it instead of a web site, check /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf and make sure that the web site you are intending to view is present and configured properly. If you wish to edit the content on the 'Great Success' page, it is located at /usr/local/apache/htdocs/index.html"
But I don't understand it and can't find this usr directory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My site is http://afewbeers.com if you want to see the full error page
Thanks

If you're seeing the 'Great Success' page, this is a larger issue. It most likely means that your site is no longer listed in httpd.conf and Apache doesn't know what to do with your site. I'd contact your host immediately and have them check to see if your domain is in httpd.conf.

They might want to check to see if the /var/cpanel/username file for your user contains the DNS=afewbeers.com line as well.

Thankyou for the reply
I've now discovered that my host's site won't open (http://www.mdwebhosting.com.au/) which is a little suspicious so have sent them an email.

Do you think this has been caused by setting the password or is it unrelated and just coincidence that it happened not long after?

Thanks again.

Setting the password would only affect your site, cPanel is designed in a way to make sure that no one else's changes (except the root server owner) will affect another person's site.

It seems that the timing is a coincidence. If your host is having difficulties getting http.conf back up and running, they should do a 'config file rollback' and restart Apache. If that isn't helping, they may wish to submit a support ticket to us.

Thanks again for your time.

Well after no reply from MDwebhosting I started searching and it seems that they are dying, Everyone at the Australian whirlpool forum is screaming about them and some are getting th. same page (Great Success) page I am getting. They are not responding in any way to any requests. This is the 2nd time in 6 months this has happened to me. Last time was when PagesGarden went belly up about last September.

So it seems that CPanel is not at fault and I have to now reserch, yet again, a new host. Obviously I'm not very good at that am I :)

Cheers

My site is miraculously back up in the last couple of hours some time. I'm not sure exactly when because my satellite internet access has been down instead. Man, is it a bad internet week for me :)

I will still be changing to someone else though so thanks for the link. I'd rather lose 6 months worth of payment than have this happen again.

I just took a quick look for a means of letting those reading your forum know that this issue is a resolved one but can't see anything like that. Some forums have that, some don't so if I missed it please don't think me ignorant. Mind you I'm too scared to retry the password thing again now. Too scared to touch anything in the hope it all just keeps working until I get it moved.

Cheers from the great land downunder.
