    Hi,
I bought a php script. I installed it on one of my machines and the dual CPU went up to 950% and of course it crashed. The script provider installed it on another one of my servers and it works fine. Here's what they say the problem is...

This one works perfectly (on the other server)........I left everything at default and all the mysql stuff is "expired".

Here is what my programmer found on the other account:

I just looked at the server, and it seems that this is again a server-specific problem.

Either the hosting server is prohibiting outgoing HTTP connections to dir.yahoo.com, or Yahoo themselves are blocking their access. The first possibility is more probable, since the server (as you said) is a fairly new one.

Below you have some tests I did from the command line. As you can see, only dir.yahoo.com seems to be blocked. Connections to other servers (including www.yahoo.com) are working OK. They should ask the hosting provider why these limitations are in place.

    -bash-2.05b$ telnet dir.yahoo.com 80
    Trying 216.109.116.247...
[timed out - it never responded]

    -bash-2.05b$ telnet www.yahoo.com 80
    Trying 216.109.118.78...
    Connected to www.yahoo.com.

    -bash-2.05b$ telnet dmoz.org 80
    Trying 207.200.81.154...
    Connected to dmoz.org

What can I do to fix it so this script can connect to Yahoo.com?

    Thanks!

By any chance if your server located @ EV1?

There seems to have been a few issues with sites being able to connect to the Yahoo Directory page from a server @ EV1.

    No it is not.

It's so strange. when I type in
    ping dir.yahoo.com

from the prompt, it gets stuck. Bu if I try it on the server right above this one on the rack it works fine. The IP that wont work is .34 and the IP that does work is .54
They are on the smae Class C so I know it's not being blocked.

    Nick, any idas?

Could it be a firewall thing? If our firewall has that IP blocked then it could not accept the incomng packets from a ping.

Anybody have any ideas let me know.

    Thank you!
