Is the .well-known folder created by cPanel or is it created by something else?

    If so...
Is this folder automatically placed in all newly created accounts? Is it added to all previous accounts?

    Hi, royce1054!

I believe this file is created (by cPanel and other Certificate Authorities) during the process of validating a domain for an SSL Certificate. Have you recently made any account changes regarding an SSL Certificate (ie: enabling AutoSSL, installing an SSL Certificate, validating a domain)?

I didn't notice this directory after creating an account. However, I did notice this directory, once I ran the AutoSSL function, with cPanel enabled. I hope this helps answer your question!

    Sincerely,
    Carlos

    Hello,

Yes, that folder is created by cPanel for use with the AutoSSL feature as part of the domain validation process.

    Thanks!

If i enable autoSSL for an existing site will add the .well-known folder right away or will it wait until cPanel updates are ran?

    Hello,

The AutoSSL check runs daily as part of the following cron job:

    Code:
    # cat /etc/cron.d/cpanel_autossl
    32 3 * * * root /usr/local/cpanel/bin/autossl_check --all
You could manually run the command if you want to initiate it right away:

    Code:
    /usr/local/cpanel/bin/autossl_check --all
Keep in mind the AutoSSL feature processes the SSL certificate request immediately when a new account is created, and immediately when a new addon domain or subdomain is created.

    Thank you.
