What is the best IDS for my cpanel server?

    Hey there,

    While IDS are really non-cPanel related, I like BASE/Snort. There are a few interesting tutorials out there and it's really beyond the scope of these forums, IMHO. :)

    I can suggest - thought I know it's not an IDS - that you install CSF/LFD from the kind folks at Configserver (chirpy in these forums) which will at least help you by adding Brute Force Protection using LFD and a good firewall using CSF.

    If you go and add a good mod_security rule set, I'm sure you'd be pretty hard to exploit. Obviously, your question leads to the "D" in IDS, Detection. If you're looking to get something on the line, I'd suggest a passive tap with BASE/Snort. You can also look at hardware solutions, there are a few good ones out there.
