    While logged in as root, browsing files in the /home directory, I found a directory named cptmp. I can find no info about this directory anywhere. Exploring, I see:

    $ [/home]# ls -l
    drwx------ 8 root root 4096 May 1 2004 cptmp/

    Thereafter, I see (account names replaced with "user1, user2, etc):

    $ [/home/cptmp]# ls -l
    total 32
    drwx------ 8 root root 4096 May 1 2004 ./
    drwxr-xr-x 112 root root 4096 Aug 1 05:52 ../
    drwx------ 2 root root 4096 May 1 2004 user1/
    drwx------ 2 root root 4096 Apr 29 2004 user2/
    drwx------ 2 root root 4096 May 1 2004 user3/
    drwx------ 2 root root 4096 Mar 24 2004 user4/
    drwx------ 2 root root 4096 Mar 24 2004 user5/
    drwx------ 2 root root 4096 Apr 28 2004 user6/

    I have over a hundred accounts on this server. Anyone know what cptmp is, and why six of 100+ account directories are found within?

    Digging a bit deeper I find:

    $ [/home/cptmp/user1]# ls -l
    total 8
    drwx------ 2 root root 4096 May 1 2004 ./
    drwx------ 8 root root 4096 May 1 2004 ../

    Naturally, the "cp" before the "tmp" leads me to believe it's just another cPanel folder, but I don't have cptmp on my other servers.

    Best regards,
    johndoe

    Go on, have a guess
    I think it's used when transferring sites, or possibly when performing restores. Either way, it is definitely a cPanel created temporary directory and deleting it should not be a problem.
