VeriSign wreakes havoc with .com and .net top level domains.
On Monday September 15th, 2003 VeriSign added a wildcard A record to the .com and .net top level domains. As a result of this action all .com and .net domains will appear to exist even when they do not. cPanel 8.0.0 EDGE 64 and later work around this problem. More information about this change can be found at http://news.com.com/2100-1032_3-5077530.html

    Yes ...

This is due to VeriSign setting all UNEXISTENT domain names of TDLs .com and .net to point to their website.

This has the problem of confusing some scripts that 'try' to test if a domain name exists or not, SPAM, etc ...
You can search for more information on most sysadmin and network mailing lists.

    Regards,
    Dani

I believe BIND confs in the update have been patched to specifically check dns requests; if it detects the verisign default page it redirects user to a 404 anyway, in an effort to protest against Verisign.

Almost makes me want to upgrade to Edge on my boxes. grrr.
