what is "virtfs"?

    this seems to be on by default but using a lot of space, what is it exactly?

    I believe that is used for jailshell accounts.

    It is a hard link, hence the appearance of consuming a lot of disk space. It is a very bad idea to attempt to remove this, because it is hard linked.

    If you delete that dir, you will kill your server. /home/virtfs is actually hardlinks (a type of alias) to other locations on your server. It is not consuming all your disk space in and of itself. Do some searching here for virtfs (which stands for virtual file system).
    The virtfs directory in /home is a special directory. It is where the jailed SSH users are jailed to. Don't delete this directory or anything in this directory. The contents are bind mounts that is a method of providing a file system level redirect. If you delete them then you also delete the real files which will render your server useles
