What makes Cloudways faster than WHM/cPanel?

Hello everyone,

I have been optimising my wordpress site like crazy, but my TTFB is always a bit high, check here:

I was curious and moved my site to Cloudways + Vultr (100% same spec, and same location - HF 4GB RAM 2CPU core) and the result is instantly better.

Total run time:

Same server specs + same location:
  • WHM/ Cpanel (4.45s)
  • Cloudways (2.29s)
A bit about my WHM config, I have paid for Litespeed + Memcached enabled + Jetbackup, so I have paid quite a fair bit amount of extra licenses.

Even the litespeed cache file is loaded faster on Cloudways

Any pointers on what to optimise next? I have reached out to Cpanel support and all they said was that the site is already fast.

Hey there! If our support team didn't find much, there likely isn't anything else I can add here. Did they point out this guide as part of their troubleshooting?

Thats not the Case, Its basically about Optimization. My Current DCs are in Germany, France and Singapore and I am from India. For most of my Customer's Wordpress Website, It always takes less than 2 Sec.
Check MultiPHP Manager in WHM for PHP Handler and Caching. Maybe, Your Standard Configurations are going wrong.
I have tried both cPanel and Cloudways and can Say for sure that Cloud Deployment Management Panels are always worse than On-Premise Installations.

Thanks for the link.

Yes, I have gone through every doc, I made exact duplicate of site and hardware config. The only different is 1 running WHM/ Cpanel, the other running Cloudways.

I guess the only thing I can optimise more mySQL tuning, I added skip-name-resolve to my.cnf and it improves the speed by a fair bit.

Still slower than Cloudways though :-?

Did you even read my OP?

I am using Litespeed and I restore the exact same website on Cloudways and it performs better.

I disable caching to have better grasp of the speed of WHM vs Cloudways, it is easy to have less than 2s speed with caching, the point is benchmarking Cloudways vs WHM/ Cpanel config.

And I am not the only one experiencing this: 16 Fastest WordPress Hosts In 2021 (speed tests inside) also have the same result.
