I'm about to set up my WHM on a new server. The default skin is set to "advanced" but I'm used to using "X". What is WHM/Cpanel's preferred default skin? In other words which is the primary skin that the developers use and that is usually the most functional/stable?

    Go on, have a guess
x ought to be the default skin, no idea why it does indeed get set to advanced on a new installation. X is the base skin that others derive functions from.

There is a line in WHM's Edit Setup that defines the default theme (see below). For most, this is set to "x" but in this case it must be set to "advanced" -- just switch it and save changes.

    "Default cPanel Theme

    * Enter the default cPanel theme for newly created accounts whose package does not specify a theme.

    Examples: x, monsoon, bluelagoon"
