Whats the difference between the www and public_html folder?

    Whats the difference between the www and public_html folder?

    There has to be a reason for the 2 folders to exist?

    www is not a folder, its just a symlink that points to the public_html folder. Looks like this is just there to make things a little more simpler for those that might be confused where to put their webdocs.

    But when I ssh into the www folder it gives me colorfull words. Public_html does not do that

    The color is because it is a symlink.

    Go to:

    /home/username/

    And then type:

    ls -la

    You will then see the www listed showing what it links to. The www folder is just a link like the icons on a windows desktop.
