I have mydomain.com registered with 1and1. I would like to create sub.mydomain.com on a different hosting service that uses cpanel. I can create the subdomain, but where do I find the IP address to use for the subdomain A record on 1and1? My cpanel account has a static IP address, but how do I indicate that I want sub.mydomain.com within the account? Do I need a CNAME record instead of an A record? If so, what does it point to?

    Hello,

You will need to ensure the "A" record for the subdomain points to the IP address associated with the cPanel account it's setup under. The "A" record is setup at the DNS host of the domain name.

    Thank you.

Thanks - I didn't realize it would be this easy. I've read up a bit on multi-hosting and now understand why this works. It makes life truly simple.
