organising the public_html folder

Hi all

apologies for what is probably a really basic question, but here goes.

I have just created my first website and initially I wanted to segregate the public_html folder into sub folders such that I could keep the differing pages content seperate and organised.

However when I do this all I get is errors about pages being unavailable, thus everything is placed together, which will be fine until I start adding pages.

I guess from the excellent tutorials on this thread it has something to do with permissions, but I do not know if using Cool page to create the site adds in another set of problems.

All help will be gratefull received...before my wife sends the laptop and me out of the door

If you can provide us the error what you get there by browsing site , we can help you with some thing. :)

Before this , you may please confirm that the permission for "public_html" and inside that are correct.

Thanks,:)

Thanks bashcpanel

I Moved a set of sub-index files to a folder of public_html, and got the following error message

Not Found
The requested URL /auctions/auctions_subindex.html was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

all permissions for the moved files were set to 755

Had a look at the html code for one of the sub-index pages, altered the file path to include the new folder, hooray this button works.

However when on this menu none of the other buttons works as the root directory has now moved from public_html to auctions.

So to sort this out I take I have one definate option, that is to code the paths for every file manually. I am looking at contacting CoolPAge to see if recreating the folder structure on my computer would sort this out easily.

Anyway thanks for the rapid reply from

Hello,
I had sent a request to demodemo.com to get them to record the first login of a new cpanel server installation.. That way, all the nessesary steps would be recorded during the initial setup so that those new to cpanel can visually watch and learn how to get started and do their nameservers and so on..

I haven't heard anything as to whether they will do this yet..

Regards,
Chris

Can't find answer - looking for search engine

New to cPanel. I can't seem to find the answer to my question in the documentation and looking through titles of threads. It might be in plain site.

Does anybody know where there is a search engine for cPanel instructions/documentation to look up answers?

Thanks in advance!

Brian - I'm Norwegian and French.

I would recommend using the video tutorials built right into cPanel 11 as end users seem to prefer those over reading relatively dry technical documentation. Documentation is available at:

http://www.cpanel.net/support/docs

If you are not seeing the Video Tutorial links in your cPanel interface, contact your web hosting provider and ask them to use cPanel 11 with the X3 theme.

If your hosting provider is using the latest version of cPanel (version 11) with the X3 theme, here's what you can do.

1. Login to your cPanel account
2. In the Mail section, click on Email Accounts
3. On that screen, click the button at the top labeled Video Tutorial so you can learn more about how to use this page.

Note, on a cPanel/WHM system, webmail, POP3 and IMAP accounts are all the same. You can use the same credentials to check mail via IMAP, POP3 or webmail. When you create an email account, it can be accessed via all of these mediums.

when I check my server using phpinfo it is said that the php.ini file is at /usr/lib, but it doesn't.

Are you merely an account holder with a web hosting provider or do you have root access to the server?
