I am restoring the accounts on my server and I have move the whole of the /home directory, so now all of my customers files are on the server, but WHM still doesn't recognise the accounts, so I obviously still need to copy some files, but where is the account listing stored on the server?

    Any ideas?

If you have a look at /scripts/cpbackup, you'll see a whole list of files+folders that need to be backed up/copied to "restored" accounts to work correctly.

/var/cpanel/users is where cpanel stores informaton on user accounts.

Indeed. Plus a whole lot more in /etc/* - Simply restoring /home is not enough to restore a cPanel server - you need to either restore from cPanel backups or use the oft-recommended rsync method to retrieve all the required files if this is an old OS disk restore. Otherwise, you're going to have to recreate all the accounts by hand in WHM, then restore the /home data, then chown the files appropriately - messy.

    Hello,

does anyone know where cpanel grabs that info from?

    Hello,

    information about Partition

i.e. which partition it is stored on.

right now it says /home but sometimes we have move accounts to another partition, how does cPanel keep track for that?

IIRC, it uses the information from the account record within /etc/passwd
