On a new RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 dedicated server at the planet, WHM displays:

Any ideas where the "on ms virtual server" is coming from since this is a linux dedicated server?

The fix for that is not in stable, but will be once cPanel 11 stage 2 moves into stable (http://cpanel.net/cpanel11). The text itself is coming from a binary.

Thanks Kenneth. I wasn't sure how cpanel is installed by the datacenter, so that header made me fear I had some file cloned from a microsoft server on my linux server somewhere

The interesting thing is that I had 2 WHM/cPanel servers installed one day apart; one says incorrectly REDHAT Enterprise 5.1 i686 on ms virtual server - WHM X v3.1.0 and the one installed one day later says correctly REDHAT Enterprise 5.1 i686 on standard - WHM X v3.1.0 even though both are set to autoupdate to the latest stable.

I would ask your data center about their setup.

Our dedicated servers for example run virtuozzo. This is done so that when we upgrade our servers or decide to move datacenters (within the same company) - they are able to clone our server to a temporary server while said details are being completed, and then migrated back over to a real server. Means we can add any hardware without any downtime apparent to our clients. Very handy I would say.

The server in question is a RHEL 5 dedicatd server, a dell 1800. I have no indication other than WHM that any virtualization software is running below the OS level.

At first I was really worried that this meant there was some incorrect file on my linux server, but the reply from cpanelkenneth above seems to indicate to me that it is in fact a minor WHM/cpanel bug of some sort. I'm not sure why it affects one of the servers and not the other as they are both running RHEL3 and the same kernel, etc. (but one is a dell 1600SC and the other a dell 1800.)
