    Hello all,

I was wondering, I've been using Red Hat for years now and so I'm very much used to it. Now that they don't do free distro/updates anymore (after RH9), I was wondering what would be the best choice to go for... At one hand it should be very much alike with RH config/structure wise but at the same time it should be stable to run a web/ftp server without restrictions caused by the distro.

Any suggestions? I was thinking Fedora or Mandrake - however, I'm not very much up to date nowadays of the developments so any input on this subject would be very welcome. (The site will be running a big CMS+webshop)

    Thank you,

    Stepan

Anyone have an opinion on CentOS? I've seen posts for them, but I'm not sure how long they've been around for, or how long they will continue to be around for...

    LOL
    you're in the wrong forum.

distro wars are 2 blocks further.

returning to topic now...i am a slackware user myself. When i had to install cpanel, i had to chose one o the supported os'es, and i chose fedora 1.

i'm pretty satisfied with it, no crashes, no problems at all. And it's under pretty heavy usage.
For what i understand, RHE is a little faster than fedora(1 and 2) but costs money.

Dunno about CentOS, as i only heard about it recently, when i was checking the list of cpanel supported os'es.

Anyway, i believe that every Linux can be made o work stable and fas, choosing the distro is just a matter of taste.
