I just want to know which background service isn't required in a dnsonly build server and is safe to disable it.

I found the mysql server does take up around 100MB of ram. Is the mysql server ok to turn off or is it used by dnsonly as well ?

technically and ancillary services except bin/named (or nsd) and cpanel.

So you can disable mysql, apache, exim, courier/dovecot, etc. They shouldn't even be enabled on the dnsonly builds.
