    Greetings,

In case you didn't know - there are 4 builds of cPanel and WHM. There's EDGE, CURRENT, RELEASE and STABLE (in order of least to most thoroughly tested). These builds may have differing version numbers (STABLE tends to have lower version numbers as it is older and thus more thoroughly tested in production environments). For example, EDGE currently has a version number of 11.1 whereas the other builds of cPanel and WHM are still in version 10. However, EDGE has not been thoroughly tested and merely represents the bleeding edge of what is to come in the rest of the builds of cPanel and WHM. Therefore EDGE is not recommended for a production environment.

You also cannot choose what version of cPanel and WHM you want installed beyond choosing from one of the aforementioned four builds. You cannot go out and download cPanel 7 (or some other old/outdated version of cPanel and WHM) - you would need to use one of the versions of cPanel and WHM that are currently available for download.

cPanel and WHM by default is set to automatically upgrade itself using the CURRENT build which is a good balance between the new features introduced with EDGE and the stability of RELEASE. As a result, CURRENT is recommended as well as RELEASE and STABLE for production environments. If you are set up for automatic updates (and if you never set this up, then the answer is probably yes) then you don't need to actively worry about what version of cPanel and WHM you're running to know if it's the latest or not.
