So what do I do for nameservers on a home server with only one IP?

    Hello,

You can setup either only 1 nameserver with your IP, or add a secondary pseudo-nameserver using the same IP. In both circumstances you won't have redundancy, but it will do the trick as a temporary solution.

All I want is temporary for testing/learning purposes.

    Thanks.

    Howdy,

A single IP will work for testing and learning ;)

    Thanks!

Your registrar where you purchased your primary domain should allow you to use the same IP for both NS1 and NS2.

It goes against official RFC standards and generally not recommended but will work never the less.

Just means your server and websites have no failsafe, no redundancies --- server goes down, you are down period.

Personally I avoid any host that only gives you just 1 single IP address on a server by default as a general rule to live by but if that's all you got, that's all you got. You still might want to ask them for a second IP address.
