I have searched everywhere and I need a definitive answer..

What are the exact definitions of VPS and Dedicated Server?

My dilemma stems from this...
I bought a Cloud System from a provider. That provider also resells WHM/cPanel Licenses.
All resources on my cloud system are VIRTUALIZED! So I bought a VPS license.....

However, my provider says it doesn't qualify for a VPS license because the server is classified as DEDICATED?????

If everything about my server is virtual how can it be classified as dedicated?

They additionally refuse to refund me and cancel the license within 1 HOUR of buying it and them telling me this.....

Hello,

What type of Virtualization is the Hypervisor running? It has to be within our list of Supported Hypervisors otherwise there may be a chance that it will only be detected as dedicated.

You can view a list of Supported Hypervisors within our System Requirements List which is located within our Documentation at Installation Guide - System Requirements - Documentation - cPanel Documentation

They are running OpenStack. Is there a command I can run via the ssh to detect if it's detecting as a vps or dedicated? I have cpanel already installed on the system but currently in "lock out" state because of the license issue...

Hello :)

You can see the detected environment type with the following command:

Code:
/usr/local/cpanel/bin/envtype
Please direct license questions to our Customer Service department via a support ticket or by emailing cs[@]cpanel.net directly. They can verify if your server qualifies for a VPS license.

Thank you.
