I'm out of options. After using the WHM transfer tool to copy my entire cpanel account to my other server for testing (did that several times without problems) there were a lot of problems, als see

https://forums.cpanel.net/threads/transfer-tool-issues.678209/

After changing back the .htaccess the site was up-and-running again. Also i did the dovecot and exim reset. Mail is sending, but incoming mail is a problem. It seems that there is a redirect or something only for incomming mail. I get this faults:

Cpanel mail

SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:[email protected]: 550-Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client.\n550-cloud.domain.nl [>OPADDRESS>]:50078 is not permitted to relay\n550 through this server without authentication.

Bounced mail (hotmail)

host cloud.meisjemeis.nl [<IPADDRESS>] SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:[email protected] : 550-Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client. 550-cloud.tricotstoffen.nl l [<IPADDRESS>]:48250 is not permitted to relay 550 through this server without authentication.

The last one contains the wrong host (cloud.otherdomain.nl is not the correct one)

Glad to see you were able to resolve the issue on your own, I do believe this is related to an internal case in relation to the transfer tool that is open currently. The workaround for this is similar to what you've done, though it just recommends you remove the entries from /etc/manualmx

There is a support article that you can look over here for more information: Email is still proxied after running unset_all_service_proxy_backends

Is there any chance cPanel could actually document the transfer process - And I mean really document it. I just got stung by this - and it would be nice to have a list of things cPanel does during a transfer so if we need to reference them to roll back a botched transfer - we have the information at hand to do it.

There is nothing clear about the transfer process!

The manualmx entry is just one example ofsomthing that the transfer process does that needs to be reversed when somthing goes wrong.

What else does the process do that needs to be reversed in the situation where say the process fails, locks up, or simply needs to be reversed?
