    Hello,

This is my situation. I am bored of typing long urls into the login box when i type www.mysite.com/securewhm . I ALWAYS use SSL, so its /securewhm

This is my question. Tell me which of these would be unsecure and which are secure:

    1. making a favorite that goes to this url: http://root:pass@myurl.com/securewhm
But I am thinking that since that is initially normal http it might not be secure to transmit pass over like that incase someone is sniffing.

    2. I am thinking this method would be the most secure, linking to: https://root:pass@myurl.com:2087 .

I am thinking that if i transmitted pass in a url over normal http someone could sniff out the password from the url, but I think that if I transmitted pass in url over SSL it would be encryped and secure.

I think I will choose option two so I dont have to type pass everytime, but can you verify that with sit #2 its secure to transmit pass over url?

    Thanks,
    Dan

You definitely do not want your password to appear in the URL, but I don't see how that would happen.

If #2 will save as a favorite, do it .. what is the problem?

Just type in the long URL, security over leisure. *never* pass a password and username through a URL, 100% risk and suicide.
