We recently got a new VPS and it is already showing 36Gb of disk space used but the total of our cPanel accounts is showing about a total of 5 Gb.

We have had some trouble transferring accounts so I suspect this might be related to temp files left by the backup process that is left behind after each attempt?

Is this true and how would we clean this up to reclaim the space?

Hi,

Login to your server through SSH and run below command to check disk space uses so that you will get Idea.

Code:
cd /
du -sch *

It would seem there is a folder /home/backup and it must be doing a nightly backup or something.

Is this normal? Seems to be filling up our hd.
If it's enabled and set to do that then yes, it is normal.

You can disable backups in WHM.

I wouldn't stop doing backups, there are very economical solutions like S3 storage by amazon. Very easy to set up and you can delete backups after they have been sent.
