Hi, I have bought a small VPS Server from OVH with CentOS and WHM with 5 cPanel Accounts. I have also bought a domain to give it as main Server name like domain.gr . I have created a subdomain for this domain t1.domain.gr to give it to my frist WHM Server. I want this subdomain to have SSL on it. I have managed to install an SSL certificate from the WHM Panel but it "takes" one cPanel Licence Account. Is this normal? I am pretty new and noob on this.

Hey there! If you create a cPanel account for the hostname, then yes, I'd expect that to take up one of the user license spots. In general, most people configure the server like this:

-create account for domain.com which they plan to use
-create a subdomain called host.domain.com
-use host.domain.com as the server's hostname

The license does not restrict the number of subdomains or addon domains so configuring the hostname like that will not count against the license. - it will just be linked to one of the domains you plan to create on the server.

Does that help clear things up?

I think maybe my Question wasn't right . Let's clear it up. I have a fresh VPS with WHM with 5 cPanel Licenses . My Hosting Provider , OVH, has given me a link for this server to connect, example vps-sdfsfdsdfd.vps.ovh.net:2087 without SSL . I want this link to be changed with one I want and have SSL. I found the option Change Hostname and I think this the right way but I am not so sure. Now I have manage to have my link , example, ts1.test-servers.com with SSL but to achieve this I had add a cPanel Account and install on it an SSL Certificate. I do not know if this is the right solution to have my own custom link or if I do it via "Change Hostanme" and just go to SSL and install an SSL to all WHM Services like here it says here:

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Ah, thanks for that clarification.

Yes, you should only need to change the hostname. A cPanel account is not required to get the hostname SSL to work, as that gets issued through a separate process (which is free!). There is no requirement for the hostname to also exist as a cPanel account.

As long as the DNS resolves to the proper server for the hostname, you're all set.

Thanks a lot! I will proceed with changing the hostname.
