    Hello,

    In your SSH mode, typing whois domainname would quite normally throw out the standard domain details. However, my new server gives me a standard "bash -whois not found" message which is rather weird.

    My server tech is quite lost about the matter too. Any help will be most appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi drwhiz,

    Please try to locate whois in your server and move it to /bin directory and try executing your command or install whois package from your CD or download it from the given URL.

    Hey but please don't say who is this? :eek:

    Hope this will help you to solve your problem.

    Regards.

    Hi BrightAdmin,

    I tried your link and tried following the instructions man. Sadly, i am catching no balls at all.

    Instructions go;
    If you are running Unix then extract the download into a folder and run "make". Copy the "whois" program and the "whois.cfg" configuration file to your cgi-bin directory, and the "index.html", "error.txt", and "results.txt" files to your webserver document tree. Edit the "whois.cfg" configuration file and enter the full path to the "error.txt" and "results.txt" files.

    Can someone please explain that in more english to me please?

    Very much appreciated, thanks!

    BTW, what i get when i "try to follow the instructions" is;
    ./Makefile: line 2: BINDIR: command not found
    ./Makefile: line 3: CFLAGS: command not found
    ./Makefile: line 4: LDFLAGS: command not found
    ./Makefile: line 7: lib-html.o: command not found

    Hi drwhiz,

    Kindly follow the steps given below:

    1.tar -xvf whois-1.17.tar.gz
    2.make
    3.make install

    These above mentioned commands will install and you can run whois command now. If it is not working, then copy the binary of whois to the /usr/bin directory.

    Hope this will help you.

    Regards,:)

    Bright
