I have gone through all files and have set permissions as follows:
all folders set to 755 and 644 for all files.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but when anyone goes to the website (except for me) they get a sign-in box requesting user and password. I do not see this. I have gone to other computers in my home and do see the box. The box can be ignored by closing it but I need to know what to do to correct this.
    Thank you.

You might check the .htaccess file in root of the account to see what directory is listed as being password protected. Sounds like something's pass protected.

If you do show contents in the /home/username/public_html/.htaccess file, please check cPanel > Password Protect Directories area and unprotect the public_html folder there.

Of note, you likely aren't receiving the username and password prompt yourself if you've previously signed into the area, since it would cache your login details for your browser up to a certain time on your system.

Thank you for your suggestions but I have checked and rechecked every directory for this account and it shows absolutely nothing at all that has been password protected???

Do you have a cPanel account only or do you control the machine itself with root SSH and root WHM access? If this is a cPanel account, please contact your hosting provider from whom you purchased the account. If you have root level access to the machine, in WHM > Support Center > Contact cPanel, please raise a ticket to us. Thanks!
