Seems the RPM that is being used is from 2005

    Is there a reason ??

2.10.15 is the running rpm and dates to 2004

    2.15.x is current

It's as old as the version your OS vendor provides. If you want anything newer you'll have install from source and then remember to exclude the rpm (if you're using a Linux server based on rpm) from updating it if it releases a back-ported fix.

No, you'll have to do it from source if you need functionality from the latest version, otherwise there's not much point in upgrading it.
