    Hi guys,

Using apache2.2 on a few servers now, but having trouble installing a wildcard certificate through WHM on those servers. Here is the error message:

    Code:
Attempting to verify your certificate..... Cerificate verification passed!
    Verifcation Result [/O=*.oderland.com/OU=Domain Control Validated/CN=*.oderland.com]
The supplied certificate does not match the specified domain
SSL Install aborted due to error.
It seems that it works if we type *.oderland.com as the host while setting the certificate - but we need to set it to subdomain.oderland.com - which gives us the error.

This doesn't happen on apache 1.3.

I'm gonna submit a ticket for it as well.

Ok - after filing a ticket with cPanel we got a few answers.

It seems that in apache2/cPanel there have been a few changes in the way you can set up certificates.

We used to set up shared certificates on the servername, but this doesn't seem to be possible anymore.

You have to have an account set up with the correct domain you wish to use for the certificate.

    - since we used the hostname as SSL and it ain't possible to set up your hostname as an account.. we're screwed ;)

Are we the only ones having this problem?

    Back to tickets..

We have this problem too in a slightly different way. Some of our customers want *.domain.com pointed to domain.com and with a php script they redirect the visitor to the correct website, based on the subdomain the visitor typed.

Since Apache 2.2 these settings are destroyed with every apache rebuild.

Is there a workaround for this?

Yeah, use an include file. That's the answer I got from cPanel support and it works.

created an includes folder, and an ssl.conf file in it. Included it in the httpd.conf file and distilled and built the conf file (says at the top how to do it).

In that way you wont be losing the settings.
