AdvancedGuestBook Install Problems

I've a new problem, when I trie to setup the "AdvancedGuestBook" then it says "
There was a problem with the install!" :eek:

If I point my browser to the new install it says:
PHP:

AdvancedGuestBook 2.3.3-1 Setup Not Working

When I try to install the Advacned Guest book I get:
AdvancedGuestBook 2.3.3-1 Setup
We are installing in /home/eye/public_html/book2...

There was a problem with the install!

when going to book2/pkg I get:
Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /home/eye/public_html/book2/pkg/lib/mysql.class.php on line 30
Connection Error

How can I fix this?

Go on, have a guess
Have you logged the problem in bugzilla and/or logged a support ticket with them? If not, they may not be aware of a problem.

Although a fixed copy has been provided in this thread for download, if you are as hesitant about downloading unofficial releases of software and placing them on your server as I am (and don't have the time to examine / diff the source), here is the manual way to do it. I have done this myself, but I cannot say 100% that this will work for anyone else. I believe these notes are complete, but it's entirely possible I missed something. I have changed very little, anything you may need to customize is on you. Note that it is also possible this method can be simplified even more.

1. Download "Advanced Guestbook 2.3.3" from its homepage: http://www.proxy2.de/scripts.php

2. cp gbookphp.zip to their www/ dir

3. run: unzip gbookphp.zip (this will create guestbook/)

4. cd guestbook/admin/

5. vi config.inc.php (with "set number" on to see the line numbers)

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

4 $GB_DB["dbName"] = "username_gb22";

6 $GB_DB["user"] = "username_username"; // the first username is the cPanel login name, the 2nd is the one you will add from cPanel "MySQL Databases" in step 9 below
7 $GB_DB["pass"] = "passwordgoeshere";

59 $GB_PG["base_url"] = "http://www.website.com/guestbook"; /* e.g htpp://www.yourdomain.com/guestbook */

62 $TEC_MAIL = "[email protected]"; // log into their cPanel, click "Please update your contact information here." to get their email

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

6. Log into cPanel for their domain

7. Click on MySQL Databases

8. Add a DB called gb22

9. Add whatever user (someuser)

10. Add whatever password (someuserspassword)

11. Add that user to the database

12. vi guestbook.sql

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

11 CREATE DATABASE /*!32312 IF NOT EXISTS*/ someuser_gb22;
13 USE someuser_gb22;

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

13. /home/someuser/www/guestbook/doc]# mysql -u someuser_test -p < guestbook.sql

14. Log in as test / 123

15. Change the default password (123)!

16. Don't forget to chown -R username.username guestbook/

This has been fixed for a few days now. Anyone still having issues please open a ticket, you should be using 2.3.3-3.0. Check out "addon scripts" in WHM to verify you are using this version and uninstall/reinstall if needed to get to this version.

Hi Nick,

I know you said 2.3.3-3.0 is the version to be using, and I am assuming you mean to upgrade to that version if you are using an older one. We are currently using 2.3.4 and have this issue (the pkg/ dir is made, and connecting to the site yields MySQL errors about logging in as root with no pw. This is similiar to what someone else has already posted in this thread earlier). Is 2.3.4 supposed to be fixed as well, or is it known to be borked and people should be downgrading (note to self: 2.3.4 does not appear to even exist)? Thanks.

edit: disregard. Opera's cache loves to screw with cPanel/WHM. I really need to figure out a way to tell it to never cache anything regarding cPanel/WHM at all. Anyway, thanks for the info, we are about to update now.

more edit: WHM shows 2.3.3 as being the installer version, but shows 2.3.4 as the installed version. From the user's www/guestbook/doc/readme.txt:

# head -3 readme.txt
Advanced Guestbook 2.3.3 (PHP/MySQL)
Copyright (c) Chi Kien Uong
URL: http://www.proxy2.de

Interesting. Haven't tried updating yet, going to shortly.

and another edit: the latest installer isn't anything new. From the /usr/local/cpanel/addons/AdvancedGuestBook/pkg.tar.gz (I have verified that this file was updated as recently as within the past hour by running "stat /usr/local/cpanel/addons/AdvancedGuestBook/pkg.tar.gz):

Advanced Guestbook 2.3.3 (PHP/MySQL)
Copyright (c) Chi Kien Uong
URL: http://www.proxy2.de

and www.proxy2.de is still carrying 2.3.3. I feel kinda dumb for asking, but where is 2.3.3-3.0? It's not on httpupdate.cpanel.net and not on the homepage. Where can it be found?

final edit, this is getting on my nerves: we have 1 user whos Advanced Guestbook installation is showing as "up to date". WHM shows it as 2.3.3, and this is verified by looking at the readme.txt in their doc/ dir. Nothing here is making any sense. They're _all_ 2.3.3, yet all but 1 show as 2.3.4 in WHM, and the installer in WHM says version 2.3.3. This has been agreed upon by several people at several different locations, it can't be my cache this time.

and you thought I was done with the edits: you meant from 2.3.3 to 3.0 =P My fault. As far as I knew, proxy2.de was the homepage for this script, and is only carrying 2.3.3. Googling for 3.0 I've found a few .ru sites that mention Advanced Guestbook 3.0, but this is not the same Guestbook (assuming the Advanced Guestbook 3.0 I just downloaded from some .ru site was supposed to be the same one available from cPanel).

will he ever stop editing?!?!: ok, the one install that said was up to date was just updated by one of our guys, and appears to have installed successfully. I'm done here. Good luck to everyone else.

This and the subsequent post just confused the issue more. I tried downloading the "fixed" unofficial installer but it produced an install that yields server config errors. I don't understand the 2.3.3-3.0 designation, and this does not appear anywhere. Is there a way to force the install of a new installer without WHMlooking at the current version and saying to itself it is up to date?

Specifically, how do you "uninstall/reinstall" a specific script like this from WHM? I don't see a way to do that.

-another edit- Whoops. I found that in another place. Sorry. Will let you know how it worked.
Rick
