Hi all.

I'm helping a friend rebuild his website. I am currently developing a new version of the website, using the Wordpress platform, on a different host.

The website as it currently stands is built with Joomla. What I'd like to be able to do is make the default homepage a Wordpress page, without hampering the rest of the Joomla site. This is just so we can use certain WP plugins to capture visitor emails while the new site is being built.

I was wondering how I could go about this via CPanel? Any help would be appreciated!

Install the Joomla into a directory, install Wordpress in public_html. When you're ready to kill the Wordpress in favor of the Joomla, you can easy enough, just uninstall the Wordpress and move Joomla to public_html.
Hi Infopro.

Thank you for your response.

I'm not sure whether I was clear in my original post, or whether I misunderstood your response, because I'm still confused!

To clarify: there is already a large Joomla membership built on domain.com. It is a big and ugly mess. The guy who built it has stored tons of videos on the host (which is a very basic hosting account). The size of the site is huge, making backing-up an impossibly-long process. This is why I am rebuilding the site from scratch on another host, moving it brick by brick, putting the videos on a dedicated video host, etc.

What I want to try to do in the meantime is make the homepage a Wordpress page, without disrupting access to the rest of the Joomla site for the existing subscribers (e.g. I can link to the Joomla pages from the WP homepage). When the new site is ready on the new host, we'll quit the current host (and so trash the whole Joomla site).

So I'm not sure if your suggestion is doable if it means moving a huge site into a directory? Is that what I should still be trying to do, or is there a simpler option?

Thanks again! Sorry for the long-windedness. This site is a nightmare to deal with...!

Running both scripts in the same directory, would be problematic I would think. A "Wordpress page" isn't a page at all of course, it's a full blown script requiring other files than just the index.php.

At the same time, this isn't exactly a cPanel issue.

You might do better to open a thread on the Wordpress support forums for tips and suggestions.
