writing own plugin safe passwords in it

    i want to write a plugin to connect to remote database.
    i have to store the password.
    how can i do this safe? in the plugin file like myplug.live.php it is not safe.

    ok, but we have the same problem with connect to an external api. we do not want to safe the api key in the wordl readable plugin file. how can we resolve this?
