Occasionally we find that we are hosting an account that can not use "www" in their domain. If they do, the connection times out.

    In other words, this works:

    http://somedomain.com/

    but this does not:

    http://www.somedomain.com/

In the most recent case which we are troubleshooting right now, there is a CNAME record properly established for "www". There is no redirects, nor any lines in their .htaccess file, and their entry in httpd.conf looks correct and like all the other accounts on this server which can use "www" in their domain.

    I just don't get it.

    Hi there,

This is one of those issues that could be peculiar to your configuration so further trouble shooting is required.. Feel free to PM me your domain and I'll run a few tests to figure out the root cause.

Thanks much. But this time we got the www going again by changing it from a CNAME to an A record. For now I just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this behavior.

CNAME should work. If everything else is configured correctly (as you said) then an apache restart should fix the issue most of the times.

    Code:
    service httpd restart
