cPanel Inc. has acquired complete rights & intellectual property of the X SKINS WHM/cPanel themes from ProNIC Solutions. As such, all current & future cPanel license holders now have the X SKINS made available as the new default WHM/cPanel skin at no additional cost.

X SKINS are currently available on 7.0.0 build 1 or later.

Users who have modified versions of previous X SKINS builds will not have their changes overwritten. The new X SKINS releases will be placed in separate directories (x, x2 and xmail) and will require administrator intervention in order to move clients over to the new X SKINS release.

Does this mean Cpanel will keep Xskin updated?

I wouldn't say put out of a job. This simply ups the ante; we should now expect more high quality skins to be released & updated from 3rd party companies on a regular basis rather than what we've seen/experienced in the past.

A very valid question. And what happens to the 'encryption' part of Xskin?

Congrats also, Bert. It's nice to see DarbOrb doing some positive changes in the area of Skins.

I said that because i think the main reason people bought themes was because the default ones weren't good enough but now it's a different story.

Anyway the bottom line is that we will all benefit from this move and make our customers happier.. ;)

Since the X SKINS will now be cPanel's default skins, they will be updated as new features are released, they will be updated in the same way and as often as the old default/iconic were.

There will be no encryption either. cPanel owns the skins now and they will distribute the source code just like they did with the older default skins.

Thanks rpmws, I appreciate your words. I see this as a nice win-win situation for all of us; cPanel is getting nice skins to go along with their excellent product, we are getting credit for our work and all of you guys are getting the X SKINS for free and updated as often as you can ask for :)

:D Nice work!

One problem though, Fantastico doesn't work right with either "x" or "x2". It links to Xskin/fantastico/index.php on both of the skins, even though the Xskin theme directory isn't named that anymore. :confused:

I don't think this has to do with the new X theme.
Code:
find /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/x -type f -exec grep Xskin {} \;
find /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/x2 -type f -exec grep Xskin {} \;
Notice nothing is returned from the commands above. They're searching each file for an Xskin path/name.

Maybe you should contact the fantastico developer.

For all users with fantastico:

Inside either the x or the x2 directory depending on the skin you're using, you should have a fantastico directory. Please open the file called xskin.html, delete whats in it and enter the following code:

-------------------------------------------------------
<td valign="top" height="90" width="19%">
<a href="<cpanel printvar="dprefix">fantastico/index.php">
<img border="0" src="<cpanel printvar="dprefix">mainicons/fantastico2.gif" width="37" height="37">
</a>
<br><br>
<a href="<cpanel printvar="dprefix">fantastico/index.php">Fantastico</a>
</td>
-------------------------------------------------------

Kosmo, if you see this, please adjust the file accordingly :)

The X SKINS as a standalone skin are no longer available. If you need the index file, please run /scripts/upcp while you have your update preferences set to Edge and the X SKINS will be downloaded to your box automatically and placed in directories called x (short header), x2 (v2.0 header) and xmail (mailonly).

The best news I've heard the whole day... :D

Congrats to Nick, for keeping Xskins within the Cpanel community and FREE of encryption and other commercial restrictions.

Congrats to Bert, for his diligent work keeping the Xskins updated and in working condition and FREE of charge up to version 2.
