Quick question on the new version of X

will the changes affect Xmail skin? Ive just finished doing a modified version of it and dont want to have to start from scratch again if i can help it...

will the old versions still work once cpanel 11 becomes stable?

Nope. It will be using x3mail instead.

X and other old themes will work. They will not provide all the added functionality of x3 and we definitely recommend upgrading to x3 so you can take advantage of the new functionality.

Does login / logout screens for cpanel and webmail also use the cpanel engine now? If not what are the options for skinning them?

I'm just about to migrate all customers for non-cPanel servers to cPanel servers and I'd like to introduce cPanel with the x3 theme because:

a. it looks more better and is easier to use
b. customers are going to get used to x just to upgrade to x3 in the near future
c. i don't want to re-customize the theme all over again after x3 is officially released

So my question is, are there any significant issues with x3 that you know of? As long as there are no major issues I'd like to introduce cpanel using the x3 alltogether now rather than later. I know it's not officially released but if it's reliable for the most part it'll do... ?

Thanks.

OK, so I'm an impatient child who went ahead and upgraded to the latest EDGE to have x3. Now if I can only figure out how to plugin Fantatico. Anyone done this?

You could change the files in /usr/local/cpanel/base/unprotected , but you would have to have something in postupcp to keep them from getting replaced.

Well the ability for resellers to skin their webmail is pretty important, they ask for it quite a bit and the answer is always, sorry you need a dedicated server.

Same for the cpanel logout pages 9I think)...I have not checked lately in X2, but last I recall seeing it, this was set by root in WHM Tweak settings, and resellers did not have the ability for a custom logout.

I'd be interested to know about those 2 items if you have a free moment to answer.

nick, please hire a designer to redo the front end ... the current one is obviously done by programmers and looks just very 1994ish

I'm sure the functionality and back end for X3 is much improved .. but quite frankly it looks pathetic

It's been said enough times but cpanel team does not care about customer opinion in this matter I believe, their design is good enough for them and nothing else matters I guess.

The features might be good but design is ages behind indeed.

There are also plenty of icon companies which they can hire to do the icons.

http://www.iconplant.com/
http://iconfactory.com/
http://www.icongalore.com/
http://www.everaldo.com/
http://www.yellowicon.com/

They can even hire a freelance designer for cheap, if they have the budget then go with ceonex but in my opinion a freelancer would do a better job for much less.

While I find the icons repulsive as well they're the least of the UI issues ... everything from the whole 'bunch of icons on front page with table of summary on the left' to random fonts, sizes, alignments, paddings etc need to go.

The whole UI needs to be redesigned by someone who's not stuck in perl/php code as their main job and I can assure you this design and everything on cpanel.net is designed by programmer(s) and not designers..

It's as if cpanel cannot think outside the square .. they're just taking a tired, old design and repackaging it and offering as something new. Well I've got news for you guys - you may have spent thousands of hours recoding the backend and improving cpanel code, but none of that will matter to your millions of front end users who will just shrug it off as another "X" skin with a couple of changes here and there...

As always, office politics is holding back an awesome product ... if it were up to me I'd just FIRE those excess cpanel programmers that are doing X3 and hire real designers. The sooner this is done the better cpanel and all end users will be. But we all know that's not going to happen when you have a nice guy at the top. Oh well.

There is no point in wasting your time making such a long post. They don't listen, don't care. At best you would get a response such as "X3 is not completed yet" or "We are still making changes".

That comment is bull ****, Nick worked with us all weekend on issues and concerns, something he did not have to do,,,, BUT HE DID!!! All day SAT. and Sunday, then again yesterday.

Cpanel has come along way and has a great product. If you do not like the damn skin, then use x or go build your own.
