I agree with you that most people who are intimate with the control panel will have higher resolutions, and I have not even looked at it yet at 800x600 so I am not sure how big a problem it is

It's 791 pixels across on most screens. This should accomodate 800x600 using a full screen browser window.

Second the mysql wizard idea. If someone is going to create a database they are also going to have to create a user and give privledges - so it should be all in one, otherwise it's just confusing.

We had a MySQL wizard in an early version that was removed. It's possible that it might show up again in the future.

3) Make sure that everywhere people can delete something (mailbox, mysql user, mysql db etc) that they get an "are you really sure you want to delete xyz". Hosting clients are really dumb and it's a hassle to keep having to restore things people "accidentally" delete.

One thing that I want to stress is that we're not going to put out X3 and walk away. Everyone seems quite worried about getting every tiny feature into the first release but don't be. Features that are requested through bugzilla and have merit will be discussed and implemented if they are seen as a benefit.

Personally i dont think its a question of features that we are worried about, its a question of design and layout ;)

Your idea with hiding the default address on servers that have :fail: I do like.

This is probably ready for another thread, but it is more complex than just removing the default address.

Why?

Because the cpanel main page would still have a link to "webmail" which, on Courrier systems, currently only checks the default address. So one would think, sure, I will disable the webmail icon then in the feature manager. Well that doesn't work, because webmail for the regular [email protected] functionality is broken when you do this.

Its a real bummer to have that webmail icon on the main page on a courier system that has the system set to :fail: the default addresses. At least on cppop systems that webmail link was useful. On cppop you could login as the cpanel user > horde and in the mail folder have the ability to check inboxes of each configured email address. sort of like a site admin might expect to have access to all email addresses without having to login as each email user.

On courier though, the link to webmail is pointless adding to confusion of end-users especially on systems that have the default address disabled (like most), AND have the default address hidden in the feature manager.

Lots of duplicate requests at bugzilla for this same problem. Perhaps they can be consolidated and we can get votes on a main bug dealing with this problem.

Perhaps it would be best if it were hidden only if the default address is set to :fail: or :blackhole: or /dev/null

Thoughts?

Just a few more suggestions:

  • Create a better looking "title" area for the Help popups - the dots and text look a bit mismatched.
  • Have an animation on the Help button, to indicate that it is actually a button (i.e. when mousedown show a "button-down" type image).
  • I still think the yellow mouseover colour on the draggable menus doesn't look right - how about a silver or slightly darker blue?

I'll agree with you on #2.

#3 is kinda moot due to the amount of branding packages offered. I'll get the demo updated asap so you can see them.

Thanks, that answers that point then - I wasn't aware that there were other layouts available as part of the x3 package.

Freddo, have you clicked on the webmail icon in X3? It is a different interface than in X and X2.

I think it is definately a step in the right direction.

I think the "end-all" solution would be to keep the webmail icon in place and make it the access point for [email protected] logins for site admins who are logged into cPanel so that it serves a purpose and does what it's name implies.

At some point the webmail links in email > manage accounts could be dreprecated (or even kept as a secondary access point for webmail from cpanel)

But the main thing is that when the default address is disabled in the feature manager (hidden from client view) AND set to :fail: :blackhole: or /dev/null in /etv/valiases (WHM tweak settings) it should not have a webmail option on the cPanel main page, or be listed in "manage accounts."

Pesonally I think this belongs in tweek settings not the feature manager next to the spot where you define the default address behavior to avoid rs-freddo's idea of having to edit the valias for it to appear.

Default catch-all/default address behavior for new accounts. blackhole is usually the best choice if you are getting mail attacks.:
()localuser ()blackhole (*)fail

[x] Disable the default address entirely from cPanel interface (overrides the above, sets new accounts to :fail: )

Unfortunately it doesn't. You'll probably find that your CSS in fact expands beyond the 791 pixels. I have attached screen shots from both firefox and IE. You can see by top right corner that both browsers are maximised. I realise that 800x600 are a small group but it would be nice if x3 fitted the screen horizontally.

I think i may not have been clear. In cPanel there is a catch-all system which is a routing rule for email. I allow users to use this (it is not disabled), it's initially set to :fail: and they have to activate this if they want to. However they can only set the catch-all account to an email box they create (or off-server address). Under "email accounts" cpanel lists the "main email box" or the UNIX box for that user, it is named with just the username. This is what I want hidden. You would need to place an option under tweak settings to hide this, as it is possible for a user to have a valid email address in the catch-all routing and still not be using the "main" or unix user box. Personally I'd like to have that box removed from the server but cPanel has stated before that this isn't possible.

I still allow clients to use catch-all if they want, but I do not allow them to use the unix or "main" box and having it listed (and webmail) makes it confusing for them. Ideally if the server admin could tweak settings so this box wasn't created and then no links or mention of it. I have found that clients are happy to setup their own boxes but it really confuses them to find that one box (with their username) is already setup. This is the only box with a login that does not use the whole email address as the username - more confusion!

I have tried to explain this as fully as possible and I hope it makes sense.
