IP RANGES BLOCKED TO DEAL WITH DOS ATTACKS.

    JUSTIFICATION (from hosting service):
All customers of all IPS are subject to any action we take to keep sites up. If _vast_ numbers of IPs are attacking servers from any range we are contract bound to ban them. It is continuously interesting when ranges of IPs are consistantly the source of attacks.

There is no solution other than banning a range to effective solve DDOS issues. The alternative is to limit bandwidth to each server for various services. Which will effectively stop legitimate traffic as if the server was very slow or down.

Since the attacks come from hundreds of ips in certain ranges banning individual IPs is not an option.

You would do well to encourage governments and RIPE take action rather than ignoring US ISPs requests to take action against attacks. At no time do we ban IP ranges without first requesting action by the controling authority. RIPE NEVER responds with action. In contrast ARIN always takes action.

    LIL OL' ME?
Knows absolutely nothing about dealing with a server DOS attack. So I am interested in any input from anyone regarding the comments above.
