    run this command to see if it throws any error

    strace yum install kernel-smp

    Try clearing all the metadata:

    Code:
    yum clean all
    
    Then try the install.

    Can anyone else help please?

    root@server2 [~]# rpm -qa | grep sqlite
    python-sqlite-1.1.7-1.2
    sqlite-3.3.3-1.2
    root@server2 [~]# rpm -e sqlite-3.3.3-1.2
    error: Failed dependencies:
    libsqlite3.so.0 is needed by (installed) python-sqlite-1.1.7-1.2.i386
    root@server2 [~]# rpm -Uvh sqlite-3.3.3-1.2.i386.rpm

    remove & reinstall yum if that does not work

    then remove its dependencies as well and reinstall one of them must be currupt
